Attention Reef Futures 2024 Presenters! Content submission is closed. If you have not been able to submit your presentation, please bring it with you on a flash drive to the registration desk on Sunday between 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM. Content will not be accepted after 5:00 PM on Sunday.

Please review this document for details related to presentation formatting and file naming.

Abstract Submission

Tell us what story you want to share!

The Call for Content (abstract submission) is closed. Abstract notifications went out via email on August 6 from "noreply@eventsforce.net."

Abstracts for talks, posters, workshops, and short videos will be submitted through an online platform into one of the content themes listed below.

Reef Futures abstracts don’t have to come from a scientific publication. We encourage broad submissions from a variety of backgrounds and geographies inside and outside of traditional coral reef science (e.g. engineering, robotics, communications, community engagement, etc.).

Plenary and concurrent sessions will be built using the content that you submit.

Themes for Content Submission:

  • Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Restoration in Action - showcase your local projects

  • Genetics and Population Management

  • Technology and Innovation

  • Restoration Planning and Management

  • Land-based Propagation

  • In-water Propagation and Outplanting

Oral Presentations

15-minute and 5-minute talks to be presented in currents sessions.

Posters

Create a poster to display your research, restoration work, or project.

Videos

Submit a fully edited video about your organization or a project you work on.

Workshops

Host a workshop to share your knowledge, methods, and tools.

Virtual Options at Reef Futures 2024

As with previous Reef Futures, the plenary sessions will be live streamed and the concurrent sessions will be recorded and posted to the CRC website. At this time, virtual presentations will not be possible; however, a select number of talks may be pre-recorded at the discretion of the planning committee, and as determined by the circumstances and presentation schedule.

Virtual Options
Anchor 1
Criteria for Abstract Submissions
  • Maximum of 500 words for abstract text.

  • Maximum of ten co-authors can be listed with your abstract.

Types of Submissions

Oral presentations (15 minutes) and Speed Talks (5 minutes)

These talks will take place in concurrent sessions which will be held throughout the week (Monday through Friday). Submitters will be notified around August 1 of the acceptance of their talk. Please note that the exact session day and time of your talk will not be available until later in the Fall.

Posters

There will be a dedicated afternoon/evening poster session during the conference week. Posters will be displayed throughout the conference space so attendees can walk about to view the posters and speak to the authors. You will be required to drop off your poster at registration check-in at the beginning of the week so that the poster can be mounted on sturdy material ahead of the session.

Short Videos (less than 5 minutes long)

If you or your organization has a fully edited video, with content about your work or the organization as it relates to coral restoration and the content themes for the conference listed above, submit a link to the video in your abstract and tell us about your group.

  • If you are creating a video for Reef Futures, you must submit a link to another video that has been made recently by the same person/group to demonstrate quality. These videos will be played during plenary and concurrent sessions and are intended to highlight the work of the diverse group of Reef Futures participants.

Workshops

Workshops will be held during dedicated times (morning/afternoon) on several days during the week of the conference. Workshops will have 3-hour time slots. If your workshop requires a full day (6 hours), it will be split across two days. Attendees will have a break for lunch either before or after the workshops, therefore workshops should not include/request food service.

What to include in your abstract submission for a workshop:

  • Describe the workshop's purpose, intended audience, activities, and outcomes.

  • Estimate the maximum number of attendees you can support at your workshop.

  • The type of room setup you anticipate (theater style, table rounds, U-shape, classroom style).

  • Please note any special requests such as a place to set up a water tank, or access to a pool, etc.

  • Indicate if you would be interested in hosting your workshop twice during the week if there is attendee demand.

Creativity is encouraged, and Reef Futures will do everything possible to accommodate your ideas!

Please note that workshop hosts are expected to source funding for workshops (supplies, facilitators, travel, etc.) separately. Reef Futures will provide the meeting space for the workshop and special requests (i.e. water access, room setup), therefore a registration fee for some workshops may be charged to attendees to cover these items.
