Field Trip #1: Dive nursery and restoration sites led by Iberostar. 

 

Are you interested in seeing an active restoration site during your time in Riviera Maya? Look no further! Join a diving group led by Dressel Divers International and Iberostar staff to the coral nursery and restoration site in front of the hotel! The dive site is approximately 5-10 minutes from the shore in about 12 meters in depth.

Details: 

Single tank dive, same pricing as regular Dressel single tank dives.

  • Offered Tuesday 12/10, Thursday 12/12, and Friday 12/13 - 1 dive group per day (44 divers + staff/guides)

Field Trip #2: UNAM - Coralium Facilities Guided Tour  

 

Have you ever wondered what an active research facility looks like? Look no further! This field trip will take you on a tour of the amazing Coralium Facility. This includes a tour of their indoor and outdoor aquarium facilities AND the cryopreservation lab! 

​Details: 

  • The visit includes a 1.5 hour guided tour of our indoor and outdoor aquarium facilities (with coral sexual recruits) and cryopreservation lab. 

  • 12 persons max per tour. No cost. 

  • Dates available:  Tuesday 12/10, Thursday 12/12, and Friday 12/13.

  • Departs Iberostar at 4:30pm – round trip transportation provided by the Reef Futures program. Tour scheduled to begin at 5pm.

  • Return: Estimate 7pm return to Iberostar.

Field Trip #3: Site assessment for combination of restoration methods

MARRS/Oceanus: A practical session.

Half-day activity with experience exchange for site selection for application of different restoration techniques including MARRS technique and Oceanus´Ibulb technique for transplanting and nursery installation. It includes in-classroom talk and in-water activity with a snorkel field trip in Punta Maroma Reef by boat. We strongly welcome attendees with experience using a range of different restoration techniques to have an informal open dialogue about the site assessment and technique selection process.

Details: 

  • Date: Saturday, December 14th, 2024.

  • Time: 8 am to 2:00 pm (Talk, navigation, field practice, snorkel time and

  • return)

  • Place: Punta Maroma

  • Number of people: up to 24

  • Cost per person (including transportation): $50 USD (transportation to & from

IBEROSTAR HOTEL, talk, boat, snorkel equipment, water and snacks).

  • Departs Iberostar at:  8:00 am.

  • Expected return to Iberostar: 2:00 pm.

*Trip will be confirmed with minimum 6 persons registered and good weather conditions for navigation (up to 2 days prior date).

*Cancellations and refunds are available up to two days before the trip.
